Five ways to use social media to build your brand

From work to play, social media is part of our daily lives. When it comes to business, if you want to establish yourself as an authority in your industry, raise your brand’s profile, make more sales, get more followers, or sell more products, you will need to harness the power of social media.

Research shows that 71% of businesses are set to invest more time, money, and energy in establishing an online presence, and particularly one that uses social media, to grow their business’ presence, reputation, and customer base. Want to do that too? You need a creative, targeted approach to grow your brand and your business, especially as the world of social media is wide-ranging and competitive.

Five clever ways to use social media to build your brand

1. Work with a network that works with your business

There are hundreds of social media channels out there. Your best bet of being noticed by your ideal customer is to use the channels that are the best fit with your brand and client base. Is Facebook perfect for marketing your business? Or would LinkedIn be a better option? What about Instagram? Each of these has a certain type of follower and subject matter. Do your research and find out where your customers are spending their online time and go there.

2. Offer great content

From your business blog to your Facebook posts, on-trend, relevant content is king when it comes to online marketing. Want your brand to stand out or be seen as an industry thought leader? Give your followers interesting, engaging content that has them coming back for more (as well as clicking ‘Like’ and following your page). Think about what your followers want to read or see. Are they visual? Copy-driven? What interests them and what can you say about that?

3. Be there often

Building a brand that stands out takes time and effort, and you need to set a consistent schedule for having your brand appear on social media. You should be sharing relevant content on a regular basis, depending on the needs of your ideal customer and your online audience. Remain active to remain alive.

4. Get influencers on board

It can take time to build your brand’s reputation and gain fans in the noisy online space that is social media. Connect with, tag, and contact key influencers who are willing to punt your content (and ultimately your brand). Mention influencers in your content and those with notifications such as Google Alerts will see your content and possibly share it with their followers.

5. Give to receive

There’s a lot going on in the social media space but most customers still love a great sales campaign or competition which incentives them to share or buy. Offer your customers something to gain visibility or generate more leads – get them involved in growing the visibility of your brand, and thank them for that.

Social media can be a powerful business tool, if used correctly. If not, it can be a waste of time and energy. Need a helping hand?
